The set, designed by Beth Galston and Amanda Wagner, is magnificent: Some 35 birch and beech trees hang suspended or are upright, and a jagged-edged wall inscribed with red and blue graffiti that the dancers in turn huddle and fling themselves against demarcates the point of no return. Black umbrellas dot the branches and reappear repeatedly as shields against the elements, both human and natural.
